Based in Texas, Carter entered the knife-making world in the early 1970s after being inspired by the beauty and craftsmanship of a handmade knife he encountered at a local knife shop. What began as a personal passion soon grew into a lifelong pursuit of creating finely crafted custom knives.

Carter’s early knives were built through patience, experimentation, and hands-on learning, eventually leading him to become an important member of the custom knife community. He joined the Knifemakers’ Guild in 1976 and later served in several leadership roles, including President, helping support and promote the growing art of handmade knife making.
