Stirling Silver Fruit Knife

Arthur Worral Staniforth was a cutler born in Sheffield in 1841. He specialized in manufacturing silver fruit knives and registered several silver marks at the Sheffield Assay Office, including ‘AWS’ in 1889 and ‘AW’ in 1890, before using ‘AS’. His workshop was located in Holly Street, and he continued his trade until around 1919, passing away in 1921. Numerous examples of antique sterling silver fruit knives bearing the hallmarks of the Sheffield Assay Office and the maker’s mark ‘AS’ have been attributed to Arthur Worral Staniforth and date across a range of years, including 1891, 1893, 1895, 1896, 1898, 1901, 1902, 1904, 1905, 1911, 1913, 1920, and 1926. Mother of pearl handle.
