Bill Behnke began his journey forging knives in 1984. His initial interest in metalwork stemmed from crafting components like butt plates and trigger guards for muzzle loading guns. Bill is dedicated to creating items “from scratch” and emphasizes hand finishing each piece, believing it lends a richer quality to the final product.
In his shop, Bill offers a selection of finished knives as well as high-quality Damascus blades and tools specifically designed for individual knifemakers looking to complete their own projects. He primarily utilizes 1084 and 15n20 steels in his Damascus, and also favors W2 tool steel and other high carbon varieties.
Bill produces several tools to assist custom knifemakers, including carbide file guides in three different sizes, one specifically for integral bolstered blades, radius platens, and a guard installation/attachment tool that aids in the fitting and final assembly of guards on stick tang knives.
His gallery showcases examples of his past work, encompassing both fixed blade and folding knives. Bill also crafts his own custom leather sheaths. Pieces displayed in the gallery that are currently available for sale are linked directly to his shop for easy purchase.
Bill accepts special orders for both knives and blades, reserving the right to refuse any order. He encourages interested parties to contact him directly; he strives to respond as promptly as possible.
