Based out of Richfield, Utah, Jim (J.F.) Ence was a revered master of the custom knife world. Ence began making knives in 1977 under the direct tutelage and influence of his close friend, the legendary mastersmith Buster Warenski—a lineage that is immediately apparent in Ence’s flawless grinds, mirror-polish work, and ornate art-knife aesthetic.
Ence became a member of the prestigious Knifemakers’ Guild the very year he started and went on to become a founding member of the elite Art Knife Invitational (AKI), an exclusive group representing the top art-knife makers globally. Known for his impeccably clean daggers, boot knives, and folders often adorned with fine engraving and precious metal inlays, Ence passed away in 2010.
